The NCAA softball tournament generally has its season during May/June every year. It includes the wonderful journey of 64 intercollegiate clubs competing for the national winners' title. This includes the most prestigious game at Softball Hall of Fame Stadium games in Oklahoma.
Just like other college-level athletes, NCAA softball players also enjoy a lot of fame and even scholarships at many institutions in the US. Moreover, playing NCAA-level softball prepares them for the major leagues and international games.
This tournament's game is slightly different from other NCAA competitive formats. Softball tournaments aren't based on single elimination. This means your team can lose and still make it to the finals as long as they secure points throughout the seasons. As per the guidelines, a team can lose four games during the softball season and, based on the points, still manage to win the title.
The competition comprises 64 clubs currently. The first 32 clubs are automatically entered further into the competition, whereas the remaining 32 are chosen by the Division I Softball advisory board.
The competition is split into two parts. In the first section, clubs are categorized into two parts of four to compete in the double category.
The winners of each bracket then compete in a playoff series that is a best-of-three format, identical to the state tournament tier. The title winner is proclaimed state champion.
