History of Cirque Du Soleil

Baie-Saint-Paul is a small town near Quebec City, Canada. It was also home to various performers like jugglers, dancers, and entertainers who displayed their talents on the streets. Guy Laliberté was one of the performers and the founder of Cirque Du Soleil.

The troupe of artists first formed a club (Le Club) in 1982 and began to perform cultural events. A couple of years later, they became so popular that creating Cirque Du Soleil seemed like the best way to achieve their dreams.

Cirque Du Soleil was formed the same year Quebec City celebrated its 450th anniversary with great pomp on the streets.

Cirque Du Soleil's first performance outside Canada was in 1987. The company performed at three places in California. The shows at the LA Art Festival were a turning point.

In 1992, Cirque Du Soleil performed for the first time in Las Vegas. The company signed a ten-year contract with Mirage Resorts in Vegas the next year.

The company grew over the years and added new shows and events to its list.
