Circus Shows

From the mid-18th century to date, the circus continues to excite kids and adults. Circus shows have gone through transformations over the decades.

Even though circuses were closed to prevent animal cruelty, some circus companies still conduct shows by adhering to the new regulations. Circus days are always special for the entertainment they provide.

Book tickets on our website and enjoy the fun as the talented performers put on a show.

The First Circus in America

The circus came to America sometime between 1800 and 1820. The Circus of Pepin and Breschard Company toured on the east coast, where it was an immediate hit with the crowd. Victor Pepin became the first person to build a circus in America. The acts and performances were similar to the ones in England.

Purdy, Welch, & Company was the next circus in New York, and it was started by Joshuah Purdy Brown. He became famous for using exotic animals to perform for an enthusiastic audience.

T. Barnum bought the Scudder’s American Museum in New York and turned it into a circus. When William Cameron Coup and Dan Castello joined him a few years later, they established the first traveling circus, P.T. Barnum’s Grand Traveling Museum. It was the same trio that introduced freak shows in the country.

Greatest Show on Earth - Barnum & Bailey

Barnum’s circus was merged with Bailey’s after Barnum’s death. His desire of touring around the world was achieved by the merger. Barnum & Bailey’s Greatest Show on Earth had a glorious period between 1897 and 1902 when the company toured across Europe to revolutionize the circus on that continent.

Animals were a highlight of the circus in those days. Today’s circus is a bit different from the ones from the previous centuries. The industry is still recovering from the losses of shutting down due to protests about animal rights.

However, you can enjoy circus shows by companies that follow the government’s guidelines while doing their best to entertain the masses. Book your tickets on our site today!
