NCAA Hockey

Do you love watching ice or rink hockey? If you do, you don't have to go worldwide to see a live match. Competitive college hockey is everyone's favorite in the US. And hence, you'll find many leagues being played on intercollegiate levels in your home state.

So watch young and budding athletes moving gracefully on the ice and hitting their goals.

Intercollegiate Hockey - A Boost to Young Talent

NCAA ice hockey league teams receive immense support. Domestic teams like Northeastern Huskies and those from other universities see millions of fans, both students and outsiders, at the games. NCAA Hockey, is a great starting point for newbies looking to make a name in ice hockey.

The league recognized the ice hockey tournaments during the fall season of 1892 when Ivy Leagues like Brown, Harvard, etc., all came together.

Irrespective of the levels, the game is recognized and is accredited by the NCAA. Plus, great players receive excellent scholarships to colleges and universities around the US.

The Tournaments

The NCAA has been organizing national ice hockey tournaments for both men and women for decades now. Different teams from different universities play the matches to make it to the playoffs.

The games, just like other intercollegiate NCAA events, are playoff-based. D1 division of the NCAA starts off with a 16-team elimination-based tournament. These 16 teams are again divided into sets of four regional teams.

The teams that make it to the playoffs face each other in the semi-finals. Lastly, the two remaining teams compete amongst themselves to reach the winner's title. Recently, they have also introduced the ranking system and the qualifiers.

As per the latest hierarchy, the conferences or divisions are:

  • Big Ten Conference
  • Atlantic Hockey Association
  • ECAC Hockey
  • Hockey East Association
  • Central Collegiate Hockey Association
  • National Collegiate Hockey Conference

As for divisions two and three, the NCAA officially sponsors about 84 different programs.

While many NCAA Hockey games are broadcasted on the TV, watching live is a thrilling experience that can't be matched.
