Despite its striking similarities to AHL, the league stands out. Unlike AHL, CHL is the institutionalized governing body of Tier One Junior A-level amateur hockey. Presently, the league is responsible for handling several minor leagues like:

• Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

All of these happen between the scattered home teams of Canada and the US. Each of these leagues, therefore, has specific times and seasons. But, the annual tournament to determine the ultimate winner AKA the memorable cup, usually happens in May. It follows the pattern of elimination-based playoff rounds.
